  • Year 6 Battle of Britain Bunker Trip

    Fri 24 Nov 2023

This week, Year 6 pupils visited the Uxbridge Battle of Britain Bunker.  All pupils had the opportunity to visit the exhibition and visitor centre as well as descend into the underground bunker itself, which was used throughout the Battle of Britain during World War Two.   All pupils learnt about the key moments of history that shaped Britain’s air defence and led to the construction of the Bunker. They saw real artefacts including aircraft wreckage, uniforms, and telecommunications equipment used by the RAF to defend the nation. They also experienced for themselves the pressures, complexity and fun of working in the bunker with the hands-on, audio-visual interactive activities within the exhibition.  Within the bunker itself, the children were able to see the Operations Room for No. 11 Group (Fighter Command) during the Second World War and learnt about Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, and ‘Women in the Bunker’.  The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit and gained valuable information to support their learning of this unit of work that they are currently studying in class.

  • Anti-Bullying Week - Make a Noise about Bullying!

    Thu 09 Nov 2023

In the week beginning 13 November, we will be taking part in Anti-Bullying Week. This is a nation-wide initiative that helps schools to raise awareness on aspects of bullying and encourages children, parents and teachers alike to participate in discussions about what we mean by bullying behaviours. This year’s theme is ‘Make a Noise About Bullying’.

To kick start the week, we are participating in 'Odd Socks Day' on Monday 13 November. Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity for children to express themselves and celebrate their uniqueness. There is no pressure on the children to wear the latest fashion or for parents to buy expensive costumes. All they have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler! If it is a cold day, then socks can be worn over tights. With the exception of their socks, all children need to wear their usual school uniform.

As a school, together with the Anti-Bullying Alliance resources for this year, we will be participating in assemblies, completing our year group assigned PSHE lessons (focused on bullying) and following the specific lesson designed for this year's theme.

  • 'What is University?' Presentation

    Fri 03 Nov 2023

Our Year 6 pupils had the privilege of listening to a presentation from Brunel University today about 'What is University?'. This presentation was an interactive workshop about university: what it is and why people choose to go.  It was a workshop that was thoroughly enjoyed by all and it helped support children in knowing the possible future steps that they can take in their education and it also encouraged a raising of pupils' aspirations.
