  • Beverly Naidoo - Author Visit

    Mon 15 Oct 2018

On Wednesday 10th October, we were very lucky to have the famous and award winning author, Beverley Naidoo, visit our school.  During the day Beverley gave two different presentations: to Lower School in the morning, and another to Upper School in the afternoon. A small group of Year 6 pupils also conducted an interview with Beverley, asking her interesting and probing questions about her stories and her life.

During the presentations Beverley shared information about growing up in South Africa, under apartheid and how she and others fought for equality and justice for all which eventually lead to her exile to Britain. A real treat was when Beverley shared her process as a writer, talking about the importance of editing and rehearsing your writing until you get it exactly right – a good example to our own aspiring authors!  Beverley also performed some of her poems, with the help of Whitehall Junior pupils who put great effort and enthusiasm into their performance.  Pupils particularly enjoyed hearing her read extracts from some of her stories aloud, including, perhaps her most famous book, ‘Journey to Jo’Burg’.  At the end of the day, Beverley was signing books on the playground until 4.30pm! It was an inspiring visit and lovely to see many of our pupils clutching their signed books tightly, ready for a quality read!

    Mon 08 Oct 2018

Congratulations to Sophia and Maalik who represented our school this evening at the Borough Cross Country Final, held at Belmore Primary Academy. Sophia came 11th and Maalik came in 5th. Amazing performances! They did Whitehall proud and showed their great potential as athletes of the future.

  • Football Bonanza!

    Thu 04 Oct 2018

On Wednesday 3rd October 2018, we played our first football match for the season at home against Colham Manor. It was a brilliant team effort from all of our players with impressive goals being scored by Dilip, Olivier and Riaz! Final score was 5-1! Onwards and upwards, boys!

  • Cross Country Success!

    Thu 04 Oct 2018

Congratulations to all members of our Cross Country team who ran 2000m at Vyners' Fields this evening. Every member of the team put in a valiant effort with all of our runners completing the gruelling course and finishing in respectable places. Just under 100 boys and 100 girls participated in the event. We should make a particular mention of Sophia, who came 7th in the girls' event, and Maalik, who came 2nd in the boys' event - amazing performances. We wish them the best of luck as they go through to represent Whitehall in the Borough Final.  Thanks to all the parents who supported with transport and cheering!

  • Fantastic Homework!

    Tue 02 Oct 2018

Congratulations to all of our pupils working hard on our new half-termly homework projects. Feedback from pupils on this new approach has been very positive. One child commented: 'I like the new homework. It makes us research more. It can take a long time but it is fun and has helped me to learn much more about the topic.'

From Year 6, we have heard much about your studies of WW2. Of one of the projects already returned to school, a special mention should go to Arthur who has created a stunning model of a garden with air raid shelter. Take a look at the images which follow and observe all of his fine attention to detail. The model has been much admired by all in school, staff and pupils alike.
