Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today we took eight boys to participate in this year's district boys' netball rally, which was held at Ryefield School. Despite the wet weather and cold conditions, our team was full of enthusiasm and energy and they applied themselves fully in all of their group phase matches of this competition. Their amazing teamwork and skill in each of their games showed as they progressed to the semi final stage of the competition. We played against a very strong Oak Farm team but unfortunately, we did not progress to the final (however, we did lose to the eventual winners of the competition). The boys thoroughly enjoyed the competition and they were proud to take away bronze medals from today's event. Well done boys! Thank you to all of the family members who came along to support our team!
On Friday 8th March, sixty-five girls, and six girl sports ambassadors, celebrated International Women's Day through taking part in an afternoon of football drills and football matches. It was an afternoon that was thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated and Whitehall Junior School is proud to have so many girls engaging in football at our school.
On Saturday 24th February, we took a team to take part in the District Girls' Netball Rally, which was held at Ryefield School. The team played exceptionally well during the group phase of the competition: beating Hillingdon 'C' 7-0, losing to Hermitage 'A' 2-1 and drawing with Oak Farm 'A'. The team performed so well that they qualified for the quarterfinals. The standard of play that our team showed in the quarterfinal was very impressive but unfortunately, they did not progress to the semi-final, losing 4-0 against Rabbsfarm. The team showed wonderful sportsmanship throughout the tournament and there was some phenomenal shooting, and interceptions, too. Thank you to all of the family members who came along to support the team.
The Young Shakespeare Company visited Whitehall today to perform 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' to all of Year 6 in preparation for their study of this Shakespeare text in their upcoming English lessons. The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the children and they now have a thorough understanding of the story plot and main characters ready for their study of this text.
The Year 6 children visited Brunel University, to gain a first-hand experience of what it is like to be a student.
Throughout the day, the children were able to hear from student ambassadors, and to learn more about life on a university campus. The trip engaged and inspired the children, and informed them about some of the choices that they will have in the future.
Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week 2024 takes place from 5–11 February 2024 . This year's theme is 'My Voice Matters'. Place2Be explain: 'My Voice Matters is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves. During Children’s Mental Health Week we want all children and young people, whoever they are, and wherever they are in the world, to be able to say – and believe - “My Voice Matters”'. Our pupils will be having a special assembly to focus in on this theme and then following up on this back in their classrooms.
Y4 pupils recently went to the Guildhall Art Gallery, where they had the opportunity to meet Andrew (archaeologist) our workshop guide who took us down to the Roman Amphitheatre. Before going on the trip, our pupils used their tube mapping skills to work out which station we needed to get off at, and although it was a long tube journey, “It was definitely worth it!” The children really liked learning lots of interesting facts about Romans, and they also enjoyed looking at real Roman artefacts which Andrew shared with them. As we were inside the Guildhall Art Gallery, the children were also exposed to a wonderful variety of paintings.
Y4 will continue to learn about Romans this term, and they’ll also have another exciting ‘virtual’ workshop, where they’ll have the opportunity to have a look at some more Roman artefacts.
Whitehall Junior School is very fortunate to be working in partnership with, and taking part in, Brunel University's Young Scholars Programme this academic year. This morning, Dr Blank attended our school to present a whole school assembly about 'Going to University'. This presentation explored what university is, what it is like to attend and and why it is never too early to consider going to university. It was a very inspiring assembly for our pupils and clearly outlined for them what university entails.
Whitehall Junior School is very fortunate to be working in partnership with, and taking part in, Brunel University's Young Scholars Programme this academic year. Before the Christmas break, we held a voluntary competition where the children could submit a piece of work that was inspired by something that they read from issue 2 of their Eureka Explorers magazine. We were very impressed with the entries received in terms of the creativity, content and presentation. All those who participated received a certificate for their achievement.
On the afternoon of Friday 15th December, our Year 6 pupils visited St. Margaret’s Church in Uxbridge. This visit enabled the children to see inside a Christian place of worship and learn about the history of the church. This trip was organised to support the pupils' learning of Religious Education.
