Safeguarding

The Whitehall Junior School Safeguarding Commitment

At Whitehall Junior School we are committed to safeguarding children and young people and we expect everyone who works in our school to share this commitment. Adults in our school take all welfare concerns seriously and encourage children and young people to talk to us about anything that worries them.

We will always act in the best interest of the child. Our children have the right to protection, regardless of age, gender, race, culture or disability.  They have a right to be safe in our school. In our school, we respect our children.  The atmosphere within our school is one that encourages all children to do their best.  We provide opportunities that enable them to take and make decisions for themselves.

Our school aims to ensure that:

  • Appropriate action is taken in a timely manner to safeguard and promote children’s
  • welfare
  • All staff are aware of their statutory responsibilities with respect to safeguarding
  • Staff are properly training in recognising and reporting safeguarding issues

Operation Encompass

The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a Hillingdon project that will run jointly between our school and the Metropolitan Police Service. This project is known as Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass will send a notification to schools that a child (under 18) has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident. This will ordinarily be done by the start of the next school day.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a specially trained member of the school staff, known as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), is informed. The DSL can then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to ensure the wellbeing of the child.

The school may be able to make provisions or adjustments to assist the child and their family.
We are keen to offer the best support possible to all of our pupils and we believe that this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
