Reading & Writing

Supporting your child with their reading and writing is one of the best ways you can work in partnership with us. At Whitehall Junior School, we use the PM Benchmark reading scheme. Teachers carry out an in-depth reading benchmark assessment to ensure that your child is reading on the appropriate stage. When we assess reading, we explore both a child's ability to decode (read) the text and their comprehension (understanding of the text). We also provide online reading development through the use of Reading Plus; this also enables us to monitor your child's fluency when reading.
