Welcome Bears, Elephants, Lions and Tigers
Welcome to your new year group page!
We hope that you have had a wonderful rest and you are full of energy for your first half-term in Year 4.
What an action-packed Autumn first half-term we will have. We have many things to look forward to in our upcoming lessons. In English, we will study and enjoy the texts ‘Varjak Paw’ (by S. F. Said), ‘Coming to England’ (by Floella Benjamin) and ‘Tar Beach’ (by Faith Ringgold). Through our English lessons, we will continue to develop our reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, building on our previous learning in Year 3.
In mathematics, we will learn about shape, measuring, data-handling and calculating. We will begin with a unit on place value, counting and partitioning, giving you the opportunity to revise and build upon your previous knowledge. The other units that we will cover are: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, measurement and geometry and properties of shape.
In science, we will study ‘Animals, including Humans’ and ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ and in history, we will begin our learning about Romans in our ‘Invaders and Settlers’ history lessons.
It would be really helpful if you continued to practise your maths and reading in addition to completing your weekly homework - please see the ‘useful links’ tab on the ‘Year Group Pages’ home page for easy access to the regular websites we use.
Your weekly homework this term will be as follows:
- Reading daily with an adult and recording this in Pupil Planners.
- Learning spellings (set on a Monday and tested on a Friday).
- Grammar study book - teachers will specify which pages each week.
- Mathematics study book - teachers will specify which pages each week.
- Comprehension study book – teachers will specify which pages each week.
- Weekly practice of specific multiplication tables.
- Optional further practice of core skills through Reading Plus, TTRS and Mathletics online.
Don’t forget to read and discuss the vocabulary and knowledge mats with your family too, to deepen your understanding of what you are learning this term.
We are very much looking forward to our first term together!
Mrs Beceiro, Mrs Hampton, Mrs Roumani, Mr Hopkins and Miss Sharma.
