Changes to School Sports' Grant Funding 2026-2027
In June 2025, the Prime Minister announced that they will build a new national network of PE and School Sport Partnerships for primary, secondary and special schools. The new Network will strengthen collaboration between schools, local providers and national governing bodies so every child has the chance to take part in school sport. The new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network will be operational from January 2027, replacing the PE and Sport Premium. From then, all state-funded schools will be able to access specialist support through a combination of universal provision and more targeted local schemes. That means more training, coaching, link-ups with local clubs, or help to open new sports facilities. More information will be published when the DfE have the delivery partner in place, but schools will be central to the design and delivery of the network.
Transitional funding has been announced through to January 2027: Schools are expected to continue receiving transitional funding support throughout the Autumn Term and into the 2026/27 academic year, giving schools time to wait for further government updates and clarity around future funding structures. Further information, including allocations per school and conditions of grant, will be published in the Autumn, so until then, a planned expenditure report cannot be produced until we have received further information.
